  • Byron Community Centre 69 Jonson Street Byron Bay Australia (map)

The World's Wife
written by Carol Ann Duffy
performed by
Public Act Women's Theatre Group
directed by Philippa Williams

10 women take to the stage to perform this series of dramatic monologues written by England’s feminist Poet Laureate, giving voice to many of the unsung women of myth, fairytale and culture.
The poems are witty, satirical, provocative and playful and make for a colourful choreographed production.
Mrs Faust, Mrs Freud, Mrs Icarus, Mrs Shakespeare, Mrs Aesop and other ‘wives’ join their voices with Medusa, Delilah, Salome and other infamous women to tell it as it really was.

Social Theatre Art is a tool that is increasingly being used to empower people throughout the world. Whilst not necessarily disadvantaged in Byron Bay, we still have issues, personal trauma and extraordinary stories as a rich source of raw material. The playful power of theatre can be incredibly far reaching and our personal stories are always a reflection of the community we live in.

Our 8 week Empowering Women through Theatre’ courses have been running termly since 2015 based at the Byron Bay Community Centre.
